The Inspiration Behind Mr. Fine
Share
This is the story of how Fine Accoutrements came to be—a journey from passionate hobbyist to creating some of the most beloved aftershaves in the wet shaving community.
The Beginning
My passion for traditional wet shaving centered on aftershave splashes. After sampling dozens of products, I discovered Alt Innsbruck, an Austrian aftershave made with just four ingredients: alcohol, water, menthol, and Virginia tobacco oil. Inspired by its simplicity and quality, I attempted to recreate it at home.
Initial Attempts
Early experiments using distilled water, vodka, and essential oils proved unsuccessful. The alcohol's own scent dominated, and individual oils lacked the complexity of commercial formulations.
The Breakthrough
A pivotal realization emerged: quality aftershaves were essentially diluted colognes. This insight redirected my focus toward high-end fragrances, particularly "barbershop" scents like Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver and YSL Rive Gauche.
The Solution
Discovering fragrance oils—combined with perfumer's alcohol—provided the missing piece. After experimenting with various ratios, I achieved a formula rivaling my original inspiration.
Fine Accoutrements Is Born
I introduced two initial products: Fresh Vetiver (inspired by Tom Ford) and American Blend (inspired by YSL). Customer reception validated my development efforts, transforming a personal project into a successful business.
Today, Fine continues that tradition of quality and simplicity. Every aftershave contains just four ingredients: alcohol, water, fragrance, and menthol. FEELS GREAT • SMELLS GREAT
